Jasper National Park

07/10/07 - 07/13/07

I spent four days in Jasper. I spent the first three days checking out the sights in the park. I used the fourth day as a day of rest and got caught up with my email, updated this site, and took care of personal business.

On the first day, I drove from Lake Louise to Jasper via the Icefields Parkway. I stopped at the Columbia Icefields Centre and took a snowcoach ride to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier. There, I was walking on ice that was 1000 feet thick. Afterwards, I hiked the trail that takes you to the tip of the glacier.

I visited a couple of waterfalls on the second day. I first visited Athabasca Falls and then Sunwapta Falls. I then headed into town and did a load of laundry that costs $10 to wash and dry. They sure know how to take advantage of the tourists.

On the third day, I visisted Maligne Lake and Maligne Canyon. In the evening, I went back to Athabasca Falls since I thought the evening lighting would be better than my first visit. I was right and was rewarded with some nice rainbows in the falls. Of course, the photos never truly capture the effect.

On the fourth day, I found a cafe that gave you free internet access if you bought a meal from them. So I had lunch there and spent the rest of the day getting all of my online affairs in order.
