Juneau, Alaska

07/25/07 - 07/28/07

We spent four days at Juneau. The first day was the ferry ride from Wrangell. The remaining days we spent visiting the sites of Juneau and spending time with some friends of Dave's and Nancy's from when they did some volunteer work from the National Forest Service in Alaska.

The ferry ride from Wrangell was 12 hours long and we arrived after midnight. The scenery along the way was awesome and we saw a few whales and porpoises. The first five photos in the gallery are from the ferry ride.

The next day was spent catching up on some sleep and running errands. In the evening, we went to a publc fishing dock and did a little combat fishing. There were a lot of people there and they all wanted their share of the fishing space. Many of them weren't shy about grabbing your space. Dave and I each caught three chum salmon and Curtis caught one.

On the third day, we visited the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center and did some hiking in the area.

On the fourth day, we got together with some friends of Dave's and Nancy's. Their friend John took Dave, Curtis, and me fishing in his boat. We caught five salmon (cohos and pinks) which we brought back to John's house for a most excellent meal. There were quite a few whales in the area that we were fishing in, so we got to do some whale watching as well.
