Riding Mountain National Park, Manitoba

09/02/07 - 09/05/07

I spent four days in Riding Mountain. The first two days I spent in Wasagaming, which is the main town site where the visitor center, gift shops, and other tourist traps are located. The last two days I spent around Audy Lake, which is about an hour's drive over mostly gravel roads from Wasagaming.

For the first two days I used Wasagaming as a base for several short drives and hikes into the park. There's not really much to report from these forays. However, I did see a lynx walk in front of my RV in the campground the second night.

I had a lot of fun the two days at Audy Lake. There was a nice trail that left from the campground and went along a fence where some bison were enclosed. But I never saw the bison from there. There also was a picnic area about a kilometer away that had a trail leaving from it. So I rode my bike down there and hiked that trail a bit. Both evenings at Audy Lake had very nice sunsets. Sunsets over water always seem to be a bit better to me.

I had been reading a book on close-up photography. So I decided to spend the two days at Audy Lake experimenting with various close-up techniques (not that I wouldn't have gone back to far-away techniques if a bear or moose had shown up). So I spent a lot of time following bees, dragonflies, and butterflies around.
