Death Valley National Park

11/24/07 - 12/09/07

I spent a couple of weeks here in Death Valley. I found it to be a very fascinating place to visit. I had a great time wandering through various canyons and washes. I also highly recommend the evening ranger talks. They are very educational and entertaining.

Despite the fact that Death Valley is known as a desert, I saw rain in some area of the park nearly half the days that I was here. The Furnace Creek area, where I was staying, gets an average of less than 2 inches of rain a year. However, it rained 0.55 inches overnight one night. That's more than a quarter of the annual rainfall in one night. But the scattered rain storms and the associated clouds added some additional character to the typical Death Valley landscape.
