Theodore Roosevelt National Park / Itasca State Park

08/23/08 - 08/29/08

I drove about a week to get from Missoula to Dryden, Ontario. I stopped at two places along the way.

The first place I spent some time at was the south unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had stopped at the north unit on my way out to Missoula earlier this summer. The landscape of the park is similar to that of the Badlands, except it has a bit more vegetation. There's a very scenic 36 mile loop road through the park. The first sixteen photos below are from here.

The second place I stopped was Itasca State Park in northern Minnesota. The park contains Lake Itasca and the headwaters of the Mississippi River. There are some rocks where the water flows from the lake and starts the river. So you can rock hop across the Mississippi. It's about 15-20 feet wide at this point and narrows down to around 10 feet as it continues on. The remaining photos are from here.
