Thaddeus lake Lodge

08/30/08 - 09/19/08

I spent three weeks fishing at Thaddeus Lake. The weather was a little uncooperative (too much wind) and the fishing was a little slow. But I still had a great time and managed to catch some nice fish. My biggest walleye was 28 inches long and I caught a 38 inch muskie. I also caught a handfull of smallmouth bass over 16 inches long.

I had a lot of great photo opportunities. Unfortunately, I messed up more of the opportunities than I would've liked. For example, one day I had a hummingbird land on my rod as I was trolling. I got my camera and managed to get one shot. Unfortunately, I had a long lens on and the hummingbird was too close for it to focus on. So I have a nice picture of water with a fuzzy blob in it. I also missed some good mink and beaver photos due to low light conditions.

I hope you like sunsets. I've always been amazed at how many brilliant sunsets there are at Thaddeus Lake and this trip was no exception. So there are a lot of photos of sunsets or of shortly after a sunset and I could've put a up a bunch more. Unfortunately, it seems that some of the brilliance of the sunset colors is lost in converting the files for the web. I'll just have to show the photos to you in person.

I was fortunate enough to see the northern lights one night. It's only the third time I've ever seen them and this was by far the best display of the three. The wildlife was also pretty active. I got my first ever mink photos. There also were a lot of eagles around, including a huge golden eagle. It was so big it made the bald eagles look small.
