Michigan Upper Penisula Photography Workshop

09/27/08 - 10/03/08

I spent this week participating in a photography workshop run by the Rocky Mountain School of Photography (RMSP). As with every other RMSP workshop I've taken, I had a great time and I learned a lot. There were only eight of us in the workshop plus two trip leaders. Thanks to Doug and Page for directing another great experience. Thanks to Chris, Dan, Pam, Frank, Russ, Hugh, and Rick for inspiring me with your work and making the workshop a lot of fun.

We visited several places in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We visited Tahquamenon Falls State Park, Whitefish Point, Pictured Rocks National Seashore, Laughing Fish State Park, and the Hiawatha National Forest. We were here at the right time to see an awesome display of fall colors in Hiawatha. We also visited lighthouses, waterfalls, and Lake Superior beaches.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't the best. I've never done so much shooting in the rain. It rained some every day during the workshop and some days it rained pretty much the whole day. We kept getting up for sunrise shoots to catch the early morning sun on the fall colors, but we were always greeted by clouds and rain. But we did get a few windows here and there where the sun lit up the colors. The cloud cover actually provides better lighting than direct sunlight for most photo opportunities. So we did have good light (albeit wet light) to shoot in.
