Blowing Rock Preserve / Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge

Blowing Rocks Preserve contains the largest outcropping of limestone on the Atlantc coast. Waves and sand have created fissures and holes in the rocks. When waves hit these fissures and holes, the water is forced through them and shoots skyward. Luckily, the waves were high enough when I visited to create plumes of water 15-20 feet high. They say that the plumes can get as high as 50 feet with high tides and high waves.

Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge is less than 10 miles from Blowing Rocks Preserve and is along the Intracoastal Waterway. The highlight of my visit here was encountering a bobcat along a trail I was hiking.
