Thaddeus Lake Lodge

06/20/09 - 06/27/09

As always, I had a great time fishing at Thaddeus Lake. The fishing and the weather was great. However, a flat tire on the gravel road on the way into camp and having the repaired tire go flat again on the drive out was not so much fun.

As far as fishing goes, my numbers were a little lower than usual, but the size of the walleyes were amazing. I caught five walleyes between 27 and 28 inches and my boat partner Tom caught 28 inch and 31 inch walleyes. My smallest walleye was 15 inches (it was the second to last walleye on the trip) and I only caught a handful of walleyes under 20 inches. I estimate that my average walleye size for the trip was around 23 inches. You fisherman out there know how impressive those numbers are. In addition to the great walleye fishing, I also caught a 42 1/2 inch muskie.

As usual, Thaddeus Lake provided some opportunities for photographing some wildlife. The first six photographs below are from an encounter I had with a bald eagle that I came across while fishing. I was lucky enough to catch it taking off and while it was in flight.
