Honeymoon Island State Park / Salt Lake

03/14/11 - 03/17/11

I spent a few days in the Tarpon Springs area. The main reason for my stop in the area was to visit friends John and Lyn. While I was here, we made a couple of hiking trips to Honeymoon Island State Park and spent some time watching wildlife on the lake behind their house. I also played volleyball (three hours worth) for the first time in four years. I could barely walk the next day. It looks like there's a few muscles I'm not using enough.

The highlight of the visit happened while John and I were on the dock on the lake behind their house. We saw an osprey dive into the water and catch a fish. As it was flying away, a young bald eagle started chasing it and then an adult eagle joined in the chase. Finally, the osprey dropped the fish. One of the eagles swooped in and caught the fish in mid air. Unfortunately, we were too far away and it was too late in the evening for any photo possibilities.
