Corkscrew Swamp Santuary

02/20/14

This is one of my favorite places to visit. It is owned by the National Audubon Society and has a 2.25 mile boardwalk. The boardwalk goes through open prairie, a swamp, a pine forest, and the largest forest of ancient Bald Cypress in North America. Many of the cypress trees here are over 500 years old.

The sanctuary is home to many species of wildlife. Unfortunately, I didn't see as much wildlife as I have in past visits. I heard owls and hawks, but never saw them. But there was enough wildlife around to provide some good photo opportunities.
