Wabaskang Lake Eagles

08/01/14 - 08/30/14

I spent a month staying at Sleepy Dog Cabins and fishing Wabaskang Lake. Thanks to Tom W. and Marg for the hospitality (and the pizza) in camp. Also thanks to Tom G and Helen for letting me hang out at their place and enjoy a few fish fries. See you all again next year.

One of my favorite things to photograph is bald eagles and Wabaskang Lake has an abundance of them. There is an island close to camp where they dump the fish guts from the fish cleaning house. The eagles see the boat heading to the island and come from all over the lake for a free meal. I volunteered a few times to dump the fish guts myself. I then anchored my boat a short distance away and started firing away with my camera. I mostly tried to get action shots of them in flight. I even saw a few aerial battles between eagles. I was amazed at how many eagles there are around there. One of the photos below shows eight eagles on the rock where the fish guts were placed. When I took this photo, there had already been a half dozen or so eagles who had already come and left with a chunk of fish. After I took the photo some of those eagles left with their piece of fish and anther half dozen or so came in for their share. So I figure I saw around twenty eagles that day. I had a blast!

I took so many eagles photos that I like, I had trouble narrowing them down. So I decided to do an entire page of just eagles. The other photos from my stay here can be found in the following photo sets.
