Thaddeus Lake

5/16/15 - 5/29/15

I usually come to Thaddeus Lake Lodge in September, but decided to try the opening weeks of the walleye season this year. I was not disappointed. After arriving on Saturday afternoon, I was able to go out in a T-shirt and had a good start to fishing. But Sunday brought a full day of heavy rain and winds gusting over 40 MPH. Monday got worse as it snowed 3-4 inches and winds were gusting over 30 MPH. But after that, the weather got really nice with mostly sunny days and temps in the mid 60s to mid 70s.

The day after the snowstorm was an eventful day for me. In the evening, I caught two 27 inch walleyes and then set a personal best with a 32 inch walleye (see photo below). Later that night, I got to see and photograph the northern lights once again.

I saw a wide variety of wildlife including a few species I normally don't see in the fall. But there was not as much wildlife this time of year compared to the fall. So I was able to get some photos of wildlife, but not nearly as many as I usually get in the fall.

Thanks to Marty, Ron, and Sonny for keeping me supplied with gas and minnows on the good days and supplied with plenty of firewood on the bad days.
