Death Valley at Night

10/29/15 -11/15/15

Death Valley is one of my favorite places to visit. I spent a couple of weeks here, a week at Stovepipe Wells and a week at Furnace Creek.

One of my favorite activities in Death Valley is photographing at night. This visit corresponded with the Taurids Meteor Showers. In a four night period at Furnace Creek, I counted seeing 69 meteors. For my entire stay, I saw well over 100 meteors. I was able to photograph nearly 30 meteors.

While staying at Stovepipe Wells, I would walk out into the desert for a bit to get away from the lights of the campground and traffic on the road. One night, I was setting up a shot and saw some movement. It turned out to be a kit fox that seemed to be really interested in photography and my camera equipment. I've included a photo below of me chasing it away for the fourth time.

While at Furnace Creek, I just shot from my campsite most nights since it was very windy and I needed the RV to block the wind. Although, a couple of friends, Diane and Penny, were visiting the park for a few days and we shot at Rhyolite (a ghost town just outside the park) one night and at Zabriskie Point another night. The photos from my night sessions can be found below. The preceding photo set contains the photos from my daytime shoots.
