Arizona Sonora Desert Museum - Hummingbirds and Butterflies

12/01/16 - 2/28/17

The Arizona Sonora Desert Museum is one of my favorite places. It is a combination of zoo, botanical garden, museum, aquarium, and gallery. It highlights the various animals, plants, minerals, etc. that you can find in the Sonoran Desert. It has over 230 animal species and 1200 plant species.

A favorite spot of mine at the museum is the hummingbird aviary. It's fun to watch the hummingbirds buzz around and to listen to them chatter as they defend their territories. Also, this time of year is when they start building their nests and raising their young. Unfortunately, they just started building nests on my last few visits and I didn't have the chance to see any eggs or young ones.

I visited the museum about once a week this winter. I've built three galleries from my visits. This gallery contains photos from the hummingbird aviary as well as a few hummingbirds and butterflies I photographed on the grounds of the museum. The previous gallery contains photos that I took during the raptor shows. The next gallery contains all the other photos I took at the museum.
